EatSmart Products Featured on The Rachael Ray Show

EATSMART_FEATURED_ON_rachael_ray_pinterestOn Monday, January 2, 2017, EatSmart Products was featured on The Rachael Ray Show. As part of the “17 Top Tips to Lose Weight in 2017!“, Rachael Ray and celebrity personal trainer, Bob Harper, highlighted the importance of weighing yourself and your food. The EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale and the EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale were included as essential weight management tools.

With New Year’s resolutions in full swing, Harper told the audience, “If you’re trying to lose weight, I believe you should weigh yourself every day. You’re going to see how your body fluctuates.” Rachel recommended every other day as a more realistic option. Whichever you chose, be sure to weigh yourself at the same time each day in the same amount of clothing to get the most accurate reading.

The Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale is a sleek, modern scale that weighs up to 11 pounds. It’s perfect for learning correct portion sizes, measuring ingredients, and planning snacks for the week. It can weigh in ounces, pounds, kilograms or grams. The tare feature keeps life simple by automatically eliminating the weight of a bowl, plate or previous ingredients. This scale also comes with a free EatSmart Calorie Factors Book to simplify counting calories.

How to Prevent Text Neck

how to prevent text neck

Smartphones have transformed the way we live. As new apps are developed and cellular networks have improved, we are using our phones more than ever before. Most users spend two to five hours per day on their phone. Teenagers, the most devoted smartphone users, can spend eight hours per day, or more, using their phone. This adds up to thousands of hours per year!

While we can’t get enough of our phones, there is a risk to staring down at our screens all day long. Hunching forward for extended periods of time can result in shoulder pain, neck spasms and headaches; commonly known as “Text-Neck”. SpineHealth.com describes Text-Neck as the neck pain and damage sustained from looking down at your cell phone, tablet, or other wireless devices too frequently and for too long.

The average human head weighs 10 – 12 pounds, but for every inch we lean forward our head weighs an additional 10 pounds. Bending your neck to read a text message can place an additional 50 pounds of pressure on your neck! The farther the head tilts forward, the more pressure it puts on the spine:

  • 15 degrees puts 27 pounds of pressure on the spine
  • 30 degrees puts 40 pounds of pressure on the spine
  • 45 degrees places 49 pounds of pressure on the spine
  • 60 degrees places 60 pounds of pressure on the spine

Continued pressure can result in large amounts of wear and tear, degeneration of the spine and neck, muscle strain, herniated discs, and pinched nerves. There is a risk of losing the curvature in the neck, which may require corrective surgery. Normally, these injuries affect people in their late 40’s, but now teens and young adults are at greater risk.

There are several things you can do to prevent poor posture and relieve any resulting pain including:

  • Always keep your smart devices at eye level to prevent leaning forward.
  • Spend 15 minutes per day stretching out your neck, spine and chest.
  • Every hour, rotate your neck by gently looking to the left and right, 10 times on each side.
  • Strengthen your core muscles so they can help support your upper body and help create proper posture.
  • Maintain a healthy weight to help keep your spine healthy. Every extra pound puts an additional 4 pounds of pressure on your joints. Our Precision CalPal Digital Bathroom Scale tracks weight, features a daily caloric reference that calculates how many calories are needed to maintain your weight and calculates BMI (Body Mass Index).calpal-digital-bathroom-scale
  • Take breaks at least twice an hour to reduce pressure when working at your computer for long periods of time.
  • Make sure laptops and desktop computers are positioned to be read at eye level.
  • Be cognizant of your posture throughout the day. Are you leaning forward to watch TV or drive? Being mindful can help you maintain good posture and relax sore muscles.
  • See a doctor if you fail to obtain relief. They may recommend massage and physical therapy to relieve pain and help you heal.

Enjoy your technology but be sure to take care of your neck and spine.

The Differences Between the EatSmart Body Fat Scales: GetFit vs. Body Check

body-fat-scales

All bathroom scales measure your weight. However, weight alone is not an accurate indicator of health. A body fat scale can distinguish between pounds that come from body fat and pounds that come from mass muscle and total body water, providing a complete picture of health. Body fat scales such as the Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale and the Precision Body Check Digital Body Fat Scale are great tools to monitor your health and fitness at home.

How they work: EatSmart body fat scales use BIA (Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis) technology to send a low intensity electrical signal through the body. The rate at which the signal flows through body, combined with the user’s gender, height, age, activity level, allows the scale to calculate body composition. This signal is perfectly safe and is not felt by the user.

Body fat scales are ideal when losing weight or training for an athletic event. Even if weight plateaus, users could notice a decrease in body fat and increased muscle mass. Body water ratios are higher in lean tissue than fat tissue and knowing your stats is a good indicator of your body’s health. Water ratios are especially important for athletes, as dehydration can derail performance.

Body fat scales give you the information you need to ensure that you are on the right path to health and fitness.

The similarities:

In addition to measuring weight, both of the EatSmart Body Fat Scales provide the user with a total body composition analysis. Both scales share the following features:

  • Measure up to 400lbs and display an accurate readout to the nearest 0.2 lbs
  • Use “Step-On” technology – no more tapping to turn on your scale
  • Store up to 8 unique user profiles, and recognize the individual user as soon as they step on the scale
  • Athlete mode allows active users to get more accurate readings for health metrics
  • Sturdy, slim profiles that will fit perfectly (and look good!) in your bathroom
  • Contain detailed instruction manuals (which also defines body fat, body water, body muscle and bone mass) and come with batteries
  • Bright blue backlit LCD displays with touch screen buttons
  • Backed by 100% EatSmart Guaranteed Product Satisfaction

The Differences:

THE LOOK

The Precision GetFit Body Fat Scale comes in black and is a square with rounded edges. The Body Check Scale is white with slightly curved top and bottom edges. EXTRA FEATURES – BMI AND CALORIE INTAKE

In addition to weight, the GetFit Body Fat Scale calculates body fat, muscle mass, total body water and bone mass. The Body Check Scale monitors 7 important health metrics including weight, body fat, muscle mass, total body water, bone mass, BMI (Body Mass Index), and estimated caloric intake. The daily caloric intake estimate calculates how many calories are needed to maintain your weight.

BEEP FEATURE

The Body Check Scale features a unique weight lock-in indicator. When the user’s weight is registered, the scale will beep allowing them to step off the scale and easily view the display. The GetFit does not have this beep feature.

Charity of the Month – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

EatSmart fans will continue to select a Charity of the Month in 2016. Fans will submit short stories about the charity’s mission and why it’s meaningful to them. We began our Charity of the Month donations in 2011.Juvenile_Diabetes_Research_Foundation_(logo)We’ve selected Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) as our charity of the month for May. Our fan, Brian Perino, wrote to us,

I am the father of a Type 1 Diabetic 9 year old little girl named Sienna and have been fundraising for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) for over 4 years now. By today, Sienna will have had over 12,000 finger sticks on her tiny fingers. She will have had more than 11,000 shots of insulin on her small body and will have been living with Type 1 Diabetes for over 1,610 days. Sienna is only 9 years old and was diagnosed 4 1/2 years ago at the age of 5.

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 Diabetes happens when the immune system attacks and kills off the insulin producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is the hormone that helps sugar to enter the body’s cells. This is how our bodies get energy. Sienna’s pancreas will no longer make insulin and without insulin, she will die.

Type 1 Diabetes has nothing to do with poor eating habits or obesity as many believe. That is a different type of diabetes. She did nothing to get Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is an auto immune disease. There is no cure!

Every carbohydrate at every meal or snack must be counted. Then the carbohydrates must be perfectly balanced immediately through injections. These injections act like a healthy pancreas would act.

Can you imagine having a shot for every meal, every snack, every day? There are no exceptions and there is NEVER a day off. It is a stressful and exhausting job, just to keep our daughter alive each and every day.

Type 1 Diabetes is a 24/7, 365 day disease. Not only do we check her blood sugar numbers during the day (by pricking her fingers), we also get up at midnight and 3am every night to check her blood sugar and give her carbs or insulin, if needed. Yes, that means as parents of a child with Type 1 Diabetes we have not had a full night’s sleep in over 4 years. Imagine being woken up in the middle of the night from a deep sleep and told that you need to eat something or drink a juice box. Then wait 15 minutes and re-test your sugar to ensure your levels went up before you go back to sleep. Sienna has endured these sleepless nights too many times to count. If we don’t do these checks and her sugars drop too low, she may never wake up in the morning. That is how serious this disease is.

Why JDRF?

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the #1 non-profit fundraiser of diabetes research worldwide. They’re helping to develop research and are closer to a cure and life-changing treatments than ever before. Your support and JDRF will help get us there.

All donations go directly to fund research for a cure and life changing medical advancements.

The mission of  JDRF:

JDRF works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people—and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it—by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the T1D community. Founded by parents determined to find a cure for their children with T1D, JDRF expanded through grassroots fundraising and advocacy efforts to become a powerhouse in the scientific community with more than 100 U.S. locations and six international affiliates. We’ve funded nearly $2 billion in research to date and made significant progress in understanding and fighting the disease. We must keep up the pace of funding so progress doesn’t slow or stop entirely.

For every new Facebook follow we (EatSmartProducts) acquire during the month of May, we will donate 50 cents/follower to JDRF. (So spread the word!)
